Encourage all ages to Grow in Faith

The Spirit gives us the gift of faith, and our faith deepens when we share by coming together to listen for what Scripture tells us about God and ourselves.

We focus on Spiritual Nurture at Matthews Presbyterian Church, where acknowledging our growth in Christ means more than simply learning facts, but also our emotional, social, and spiritual development as we practice our faith in classes, discussion groups, and special programs for adults, youth, and children.

Adults

Sunday mornings

At 9:30 a.m. on , Matthews Presbyterian Church provides three adult Sunday School classes. The Genesis Class, which meets upstairs in room 205 of the main building, is a class primarily for parents of school-aged children studying a wide range of Biblical, spiritual, and life application themes. The Explorers Class, upstairs of the main building in room 207, uses various studies including books and video lectures to study a broad range of religious and theological topics and tends to be middle-aged adults. Learning and Living God's Word, upstairs in the Sanctuary Building, has just started a study on the gospel of John, and has a variety of ages

Bible Study

The Pastor’s Study is led by Pastor Luke on Wednesday Evening at 6:30pm.

Book Club

The Book Club is an intergenerational group who gathers once per month to discuss our latest book. They read everything from young adult, to biographies, to non-fiction, to the classics. Check out the announcements for the latest book!

Presbyterian Women

The Presbyterian Women is an opportunity for all women of our church to be in relationship together.  There are two circles, Circle #1 and Share Our Spirit.  Circle #1 meets on the first Monday of the month at 2pm in the Library. Share Our Spirit Circle meets on the second Tuesday of the month.  Check the calendar for more details on meeting place and time.  Each fall, they host a retreat.  Each spring, they host a tea and help the Men of the Church with a Golf Tournament.  Ladies of all ages are welcome to participate.  Contact the church office for more information.

Men of the church

The Men of the Church is open to all men.  Together, they build relationships and grow in their faith.  They meet on the second Saturday of the month in the Friendship Court for fellowship, discussion, planning, and a light breakfast.  Throughout the winter months, they coordinate our Room in the Inn ministry for Charlotte's homeless neighbors.  The Men of the Church also host a chili cookoff in February and a Golf Tournament, with the Presbyterian Women, in the Spring.  Contact the church office for more information.

Youth

The youth group at Matthews Presbyterian Church consists of Middle School (grades 6 through 8) and Senior High students (grades 9 through 12). We have a very active program for our young people that involves Bible Study, Worship, Education, Fellowship, Games and Music.

Regularly scheduled youth activities begin in late August and go through mid-May, before breaking for summer activities. During the school year you will find us having weekly Bible study for middle school and high school groups, fellowship on Sunday nights, service projects, and game nights. We seek to provide an environment for the youth to come and be themselves, learn about God and how God works in their lives today, and to fellowship with other Christian friends.

Nursery

We currently have many children at Matthews Presbyterian Church between the ages of newborn to 5 years who would love to have your child join them. A nursery is available from 9:00am until 11:30am to care for children 5 and under. Our nursery is staffed by Anne Jenkins and Doris Downing who provide consistent care each week. With their help we want children to be surrounded by God's love while learning that church is a place they belong.  The nursery is located opposite the women's restroom in the Sanctuary Building.

During the Worship Service we offer Noah's Chapel for those 2-5 years old. Noah's Chapel is a time for children who do not wish to stay in the worship service following the Children's Message to participate in age appropriate activities together.  During Noah's Chapel, we'll sing songs, dance, make crafts, and learn more about the day's Bible passage.
