Christian Education

The Spirit gives us the gift of faith, and our faith deepens when we share by coming together to listen for what scripture tells us about God and ourselves.

We focus on Spiritual Nurture at Matthews Presbyterian Church, where acknowledge our growth in Christ means more than simply learning facts, but also our emotional, social, and spiritual development as we practice our faith in classes, discussion groups and special programs for adults, youth and children.

If you want to know more about our programs or to receive our newsletter emails, contact Liz, the Director of Christian Education. Our forms and other information can be located on the Resources Page.

Sundays for Children

Sunday School Classes are offered during the Sunday School Hour from 9:15am - 10:15am.   We begin in the Sanctuary with a gathering time.  Classes are offered for children ages 4 years to 5th Grade.  The Sunday School curriculum is Spark, a Bible-centered curriculum containing a variety of age-appropriate activities designed to accommodate all of the different ways children learn.

Nursery is offered each Sunday during Sunday School and Worship.  Infants receive care in their own safe, comfortable room, while Toddlers explore their room with age-appropriate activities, lessons, and fun.

Noah's Chapel is a time for children ages 3 years old through Kindergarten who do not wish to stay in the worship service following the Children's Message to participate in age appropriate activities together.

Wednesday Afternoons

AMP! (Arts at Matthews Presbyterian) is a wonderful mid-week opportunity for elementary-age children to get together with their church friends.  This year during AMP!, the children will be rotating through violin, drama, and choir beginning each Wednesday at 4:45pm to 7:00pm We offer three different tracks based on age - 3 years through Pre-K, Kindergarten through 5th Grade, or 6-8th graders. More information is on the resources page!

We currently have many children at Matthews Presbyterian Church between the ages of 0 to 5 years who would love to have your child join them. A nursery is available from 9:00am until 11:30am to care for children 5 and under. Our nursery is staffed by Anne and Doris who provide consistent care to infants and toddlers each week. With their help we want children to be surrounded by God's love while learning that church is a place they belong.  The nursery is located opposite the women's restroom in the Sanctuary Building.

During the Worship Service we offer Noah's Chapel for those 2 years or older. During Noah's Chapel, we'll sing songs, dance, make crafts, and learn more about the day's Bible passage!

The youth group at Matthews Presbyterian Church consists of Middle School (grades 6 through 8) and Senior High students (grades 9 through 12). We have a very active program for our young people that involves Bible Study, Worship, Education, Fellowship, Games and Music.

Regularly scheduled youth activities begin in late August and go through mid-May, before breaking for summer activities. During the school year you will find us having weekly bible study for middle school and high school groups, fellowship on Sunday nights, service projects, and game nights. We seek to provide an environment for the youth to come and be themselves, learn about God and how God works in their lives today, and to fellowship with other Christian friends.
