Dear Acolytes and Parents,
Thank you for the excellent
service each of you give to Matthews Presbyterian Church through your
participation in the Acolyte Program! It
warms my heart to sit in the congregation and watch each of you take your
Acolyte responsibility so seriously. It
is very impressive to see the respect and dedication you demonstrate when you
are in this role. I am very proud of
you, and, even though I don’t get to see each of you very often (our family
usually attends the
As we move into the second
half of the year, here are a few reminders to be aware of:
*If you are the Candlelighter, please
remember the right candle is lit first and extinguished
last.
The left candle never burns alone.
*Please remember to walk slowly down the
aisle and on the stage.
*Depending upon the length of the final hymn,
normally you should begin to close the bible and
extinguish the candles at the start of the 3rd verse of the
closing hymn.
*If your robe is dirty or stained, please
let me know ASAP so they can be cleaned.
Attached is our ACOLYTE SCHEDULE for
January – May 2004. The Acolyte Program
takes a summer break for the summer at the end of May, then starts up again in
September. On May 22nd we
will be having Acolyte Recognition during both of the services. Please try to attend one of the services that
day so we may thank you for the work you have done this year.
REMEMBER:
If you are unable to serve as an Acolyte on your scheduled date and
time,
please
call one of your fellow Acolytes to take your place.
Check the “Liturgical Color
Calendar” posted on the Acolyte Room door (or check the cloths covering the
Altar and Pulpit) to identify the correct rope color to wear with your Acolyte
robe. The color you wear should always
match the color of the cloth on the altar and pulpit that Sunday.
If you have questions, please
feel free to call me! Thanks again for
the terrific job you do!
